Help from the Peanut Gallery
Surely someone out there must know how to make real Gingerbread Man Ornaments. A student of mine made one for me a few years back, and I thought it might be a cute idea to make for people like Gavin's physical therapist and the nice ladies in our pediatrician's office. I want the real thing, not a gingerbread man traced on a piece of felt. Is it really as simple as baking the cookies, letting them dry out for a day or two, and then spraying them with clear varnish? Please advise.

Hi! I came from Keri's blog. I have a recipe somewhere. Let me look.
ReplyDeleteI made these a few years ago, I am not sure if this is what you are really looking for. I am sure if you google them you will find lots of different recipes but here was the one I made:
ReplyDeletePuffy Cinnamon Ornaments
4 c. all-purpose flour
1/4 c. cinnamon
1 c. salt
3 T. nutmeg
2 T. cloves
1-1/2 c. lukewarm water
Sift together the flour, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, and cloves. Add enough water until the dough is the consistency of molding clay. Roll out ot 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick and cut with cookie cutters. Insert a straw at the top if you'd like to string them for hanging on your tree or adding to packages. Bake at 300 degrees for one hour. I didn't decorate them other than with ribbons so I don't know if this is what you are wanting but they did smell good!!!
Great! Thank you, Kristi!
