Thrift Store Heaven

I've always been a thrift-store gal, but last weekend I discovered the Mecca of all thrift stores.

I had read a few blogs that had mentioned Habitat for Humanity's "Restore," which is essentially a thrift store whose proceeds go to H for H.  I decided to Google it to see if there were any in my area, and lo and behold, there was a Restore only a few miles away.

Let me tell you, this place is a well-kept secret.  I cannot believe I had never heard of it before.  If I knew what was in store for me, I definitely would have taken my camera.  But alas, I was unaware, and therefore armed with only my iPhone.

This was my view as I walked in.  It was as if the heavens opened, and the angels sang.

I've had my eye out for a pair of caned arm chairs.  They didn't have any, but still, their selection was amazing.  I have high hopes that some day soon I might score a pair there.

The dresser with the mirror on top is a style called "waterfall."  When I was in high school, my mom bought me a bedroom set of vintage waterfall furniture that looks just like this.  Love it!

I kept walking by this dresser.  I'll bet I could find a place for it.  Just needs a new paint color.

This desk will DEFINITELY be mine, hopefully next weekend when I return with a bigger car.  I love the hardware.  I'm thinking I'll paint the desk, maybe a grayish-blue, and spray the hardware with some oil-rubbed bronze.  Or maybe I'll go a little nuts and paint it emerald green or peacock blue.  We'll see.

Look at the cute paper that's lining the desk drawers.  Just another reason to love it.

I think this gorgeous buffet may make it home with me, too.  It would look great in my foyer.  Needs a little loving, though.  Maybe I'll paint it black.  What do you think?

Have you ever been to a Restore?

  1. Wow! We have a restore near us and the one time I went I don't think I saw anything like this - I was actually a bit disappointed. We didn't own a home at the time and my eyes hadn't yet been opened to the world of re-painting furniture. I'll have to go back now that I see all the treasures you ran across!

I think the buffet should definitely go home with you - it's got such a great shape!

  2. How solid is that buffet? Looks like it has some nice wood. If that is the case I would get it refinished and spray up the hardware.

That store definitely looks like it has some promise.

  3. Amy,
Huge, solid piece of furniture. In fact, I just saw the same piece on Houzz, painted white with some detailing. Gorgeous.

We'll have to go together sometime!

  4. We do have one nearby...but the hours are funky and I have not made it there yet! I actually have a few things to donate also. We also have a store near us called Home Emporium that I am dying to go to...I think it is like the TJMaxx of hardware stores, with some home dec stuff thrown in!

  5. Amy,

Which one did you go to? I saw there is one in Norristown as well as one in Chalfont.
